
Rainis and Aspazija’s Home is a unique historical building monument from the 19th century situated in the centre of Riga. Two storey building fronting the road and a single storey building with a small inner courtyard forms an unusual cultural historical ensemble. Wooden house at 30 Baznicas Street is built in 1879. In 1924, Rainis (1865–1929) and Aspazija (1865–1943) – Latvian poets, playwrights and public figures acquired the building.
Rainis and Aspazija’s Home is a place where you can get to know outstanding personalities of Latvian culture and their intellectual heritage.
The museum also provides a possibility to get acquainted with the memorial surroundings Rainis and Aspazija were living in at the end of the 1920ties, being here in Riga, the epicentre of public life. The museum has become a safe platform for various modern literature and art activities, inviting people of various generations residing in the neighbouring areas, as well as guests, to visit events organised by the museum.
Since the times of Rainis and Aspazija, the former suburbs of Riga have become a flourishing and orderly part of the city, also including Vesetas Street. This is a district of active and responsible inhabitants who value cultural heritage highly.
