A hundred years ago, Riga was the capital of beer brewing in Northern Europe. The three biggest breweries in Riga were situated right in this neighbourhood, Valdemāra passage, twenty minutes’ walking distance from each other. Today this is the district where beer lovers of Riga meet, old traditions are reborn and local beer enjoyment culture strives for new quality. Now a movement of craft beer brewers and admirers is developing in the place where the most delicious beer of Riga was brewed in olden times.
In 2011 Valmiermuiža brewery brought a new spirit into the historical Fon Stricka brewery, opening the Valmiermuiža Brewery Embassy in the old premises. During a six year period, six pubs with a wide offer of craft beer opened in this area. What does this show? Beer enjoyment culture continues its development together with the district, attracting increasingly more guests.
